THE National Hosting Authority has confirmed that all Games Facilities will be handed over to the Games Organizing Committee by the end of this month.
NHA Board Chairman Dr Jimmie Rodgers revealed that by October 27th, GOC will receive all Games facilities for the delivery of this year’s 17th Pacific Games in Honiara.
Dr Rodgers said, “This will give the GOC enough time to move into the facilities and have them ready ahead of Games time. This also gives GOC time to test these facilities, move in furniture, overlays and other necessities needed for the successful use and deliver of this year’s Games.”
The facilities to be used at Games time include; 14 competition and non-competition venues and five schools and institutions in and around the national capital.
Games Venues to be used at the Games include; DC Park, King George VI East, National Stadium, Aquatics Center, National Tennis Court, Friendship Hall, SIFF Academy, Maranatha Hall, Honiara City Hall, Lawson Tama, Honiara Golf Club, King George Hockey Stadium, Main Dinning Hall and the Warm Up Track. Schools to be used as Games Villages are: King George Sixth School, SINU (Solomon Islands National University) Kukum and Panatina Campuses, Saint Nicholas College, Saint Joseph’s Tenaru and Don Bosco College.
Dr Rodgers said that three schools will be handed over to NHA mid-October.
“SINU’s Kukum Campus, St. Joseph’s Tenaru and King George Sixth School dormitories will be handed over to NHA on the 13th of October. GOC will then take ownership of all these facilities by the end of this month,” he said.
