THE Solomon Islands MSG Prime Minister’s Cup 2023 champion team returned home to Honiara this afternoon as they celebrated their victory.
After defeating host nation New Caledonia 1-0 in the championship game on Saturday, the Solomon Islands team was crowned the region’s winner. The long wait is over as they can finally win the Melanesian championship once more.
In the weekend round-robin event, the national team scored five (5) goals without giving up a goal in three (3) games.
The Solomon Islands is utilizing this competition to get ready for the XVII Pacific Games, which will take place in Honiara in 2023.
The team’s next challenge, according to National Head Coach Felipe Vega-Arango, is the November 2023 Pacific Games at home.
After the MSG competition, they will move on to the Pacific Games, he told SIFF Media.
“Yes, we’re prepared! We must be humble and diligent in our task. It will be difficult, but I always have faith in the players when they have the appropriate focus.
“I want to thank the players and team officials for the essential team spirit displayed throughout.” Felipe Vega-Arango said to SIFF Media, “I want to thank SIFF for always being there to help and support the team, and I also want to thank the supporters in the Solomon Islands and abroad for always supporting the squad.”
