WITH 7 months or 219 days to go before the 2023 Pacific Games in November, the post-construction of key sports facilities is running smoothly and will be completed on time, according to a statement by the 2023 Pacific Games Stadium Project.
The Project statement noted that at present, the construction of sports technology, decoration, mechanical and electrical installation, and outdoor engineering is progressing smoothly.
“The construction of the surface layer of the tennis centre field has been completed, and the natural turf made by Bermuda grass on the main football field has been basically leveled, more than half of the construction of the synthetic surface track has been completed.
“The laying of tiles for the swimming pool in the aquatic center is also about to be completed, and the installation of cement fiberboard and stone on the outer facade of the main stadium is almost completed,” the statement said.
It further made the assurance that they are working to deliver all remaining construction parts of the project on schedule.
“Chinese contractor will continue to adhere to the spirit of striving for excellence and keep the commitment, ensuring the high-quality completion of the remaining construction content of the project, and delivering it on schedule, providing strong support for the people of Solomon Islands to successfully host the 2023 Pacific Games,” the statement said.
Chairman of the Sol2023 National Hosting Authority (NHA), Jimmie Rodgers in a recent talkback show at the SIBC said all facilities for the 2023 Pacific Games are expected to be handed over to the government by August and then handed over to the Games Organizing Committee in October, a month before the hosting of the Pacific Games in Honiara.
“Preparation is on track and we are looking at speeding up certain processes including support we will be giving to the games organizing committee,” Rodgers said.
The 17th edition of the Pacific Games – SOL2023 Pacific Games is scheduled to open on November 19th and closes on December 2nd in Honiara.
