IT was a joyous Christmas season of festivity for Munda communities after their Boys were crowned Champions during the recent Roviana Youth Football Cup competition held at Noro, Western Province.
Kekehe 1 Football Club under 15 boys mainly comprised of players from Munda who resided around the Munda International Airport.
The Champions were pooled with Central Kohigo 1 FC, Dunde 2 FC, Central Noro Rangers, and East Labete 1 FC in pool B during the first-ever of its kind organized youth Cup in the region.
The competition comprised of 19 teams and categorized into four Pools. The theme for the championship – ‘Inspiring Our Youth Through Sport’ with the slogan ‘ Roviana Energy, Roviana Future’.
Kekehe 1 made it through to the quarter-finals with 19 points in the tournament.
The home boys booked their quarter-final spot after defeating Kokeqolo 1 of pool A in a penalty shootout to book their semifinals place against host Noro Tuna A of pool C.
Small Baru A in group D who claim the second spot on the other hand has overdrawn their pool partner Dunde 1 in the semifinal spot to book the final spot against the champions Kekehe 1.
Small Baru A secured their quarterfinals and semifinals on day two with 7 points recorded.
Kekehe 1 Football were crowned Champions with a Trophy and gold medals, while Small Baru A secured bronze medals for claiming the second spot.
Representative of the Youth Cup Championship Organising Committee, Vivian Wickham told Raw Sports that this year no cash prize was not the objective of the organizers.
“This is a youth competition and not wise to entertain cash to such age, so prizes mostly medals and trophy, he told raw sport in a chart interview.
“In terms of football the Kekehe 1, as well as the province of Western Province, had focused in building these young lads in sport for the past 10 years,” said.
Mr. Vivian said the Kekehe 1 Football Club has produced many talented players in the country where some are members Royal Football Academy who are now in England, while others are with the National U-17.
