MALAITA (Kwikwi) coach Albert Pita says he’s proud of his players’ victory over Honiara.
Malaita Province was crowned champions of this year’s Mariner National Beach Championship after beating rivals Honiara City 5-3 in an entertaining grand-final today at DC Park east of Honiara.
The Champions took away 20k cash including gold medals, and the winning trophy.
Albert Pita said “I am so proud and happy of my boys’ performance today. They did it right according to our game plan and I would thank them for their achievement.
“I told them that Honiara is a very strong team and the only way to beat them is through a good teamwork and game plan.
“We have also identified the Honiara side’s attacking strength and style in our first encounter and from analyzing those strengths we managed to capitalize on their game weaknesses which eventually gave us a victory.
He also said: “I believe the team is looking forward to winning future Championships in Honiara.
“We (team players including the coach) came from the same place (Kwai Island in East Malaita), we have a beach soccer field, and through our everyday preparedness it paid off.
“I thank all Malaitan supporters in Honiara and our home province for offering their strong support and prayers for the boys in this Championship.
“I also want to thank our supporters in Honiara and elsewhere in the country for supporting us one way or the other. Without all of the support, we won’t come this far.
“This is our fifth win in such organized beach soccer championship since 2016, making us five times Champions, and we hope to defend the title in future,” Albert told Raw Sports.
