SOLOMON Islands team triathlon athletes have now begun training as part of their early preparations to select a final team for next year’s 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara.
Nathan Siofa, Head Coach of the Solomon Islands National Triathlon team told RAW SPORTS that although they have begun their pool training at the Honiara Hotel, they are still a low turnout of athletes attending the scheduled training.
“I know that the majority of the young athletes are school students and most times they are busy attending their classes.
“However, slowly things are picking up and we expect more to attend our scheduled pool training sessions,” Siofa said.
He said slowly and surely things will turn out positive over the coming months for them despite being faced with such a challenge.
“We hope to see more athletes attending our training sessions over the next month.
“This is our second week of undergoing our initial pool training, and it’s good that we identify such challenges so that we can improve during the coming weeks and months,” the Head Coach of the Solomon Islands National Triathlon team said.
He described triathlon as a quite complex sport that needs more intensive and vigorous training to prepare athletes for the 2023 Pacific Games.
“The Triathlon athletes usually train two days a week from Tuesdays to Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
“We are excited to see our athletes’ already undergone gym, strength, and conditioning sessions at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports Complex, east of Honiara, and also receiving nutritional advice from our experts.
“We have undergone training on speed work, endurance, and laps swimming, where athletes have to stay in the place where shallow and deep areas as well.
“We hope to identify any weaknesses encountered in our training and hope to address them as we continue to prepare our athletes for the selection of a final team to compete against the best athletes in the Pacific region,” Nathan Siofa said.
