PARA athletes undertaking the high-performance program at the Solomon Islands Institution of Sports are still hard on their training as they prepare to register their names in the final team to represent the country at the next year’s Pacific Games in Honiara.
Solomon Islands Para Coach, Mark Ologa said the aim of the seven (7) weeks of the high-performance training program is to put para-athletes on trials and later select a final squad for team Solomon Islands as they build towards the 2023 Pacific Games next year.
Ologa said the high-performance training program is to identify potential athletes who can represent the country at the highest level of competition at the next year’s Pacific Games in Honiara.
“The seven (7) weeks of scheduled training is also an opportunity to engage and develop para-sports athletes to gain more fitness, strength, and conditioning.
“It is very important that the athletes must go through a series of high-performance training before making a final squad to represent the country in the next year’s 2023 Pacific Games.
“Currently, we are preparing para athletes that will be competing in the shot put, javelin, archery, table tennis, and powerlifting
“Our preparations toward the 2023 Pacific Games have gone well as expected and the final selection for next year’s team Solomon Islands will be released soon,” Ologa told RAW SPORTS.
