Solomon Islands Volleyball Federation (SIVF) has officially become the eighth sport federation to register with the National Sports Council (NSC) for 2026, marking milestones for both the NSC and SIVF in strengthening governance and elite athlete development for volleyball in the country.
Volleyball is widely recognised as one of the country’s most popular sports, with strong participation across provinces. SIVF was formally affiliated with the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) in 1990 and is a member of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and the Oceania Zonal Volleyball Association (OZVA).
In recent years, SIVF has achieved notable regional success. Beach volleyball qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, while the women’s beach team secured a silver medal at the 2023 XVII Pacific Games. The SIVF also hosted the inaugural OZVA U18 Beach Volleyball Championships in 2025 using experience gained from the 2023 Pacific Games to produce a successful event. Indoor volleyball has also shown steady improvement, with both men’s and women’s teams climbing regional rankings.
With registration now confirmed, SIVF can immediately access key opportunities under the NSC 2026 framework. These include complimentary access to national sporting facilities for national squad training, as well as access to the High Performance (HP) Centre to support elite athlete preparation.
Under this registration, SIVF is eligible to nominate:
-One Senior Men’s and one Senior Women’s Indoor Volleyball squad,
-One Senior Men’s and one Senior Women’s Beach Volleyball squad, and
-One Junior Men’s and one Junior Women’s Beach Volleyball squad for Youth Olympic Games (YOG) purposes.
As a registered federation, SIVF may apply for the NSC Governance Grant of $10,000 and other available funding opportunities. Funding approvals remain subject to NSC discretion, compliance requirements and availability. A governance recognition certificate has been issued to formally acknowledge SIVF’s compliance.
SIVF’s registration reflects NSC’s continued commitment to strengthening governance standards, building sustainable athlete pathways and supporting national federations to compete at regional and international levels.
