THE Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Home of Football has been officially handed over, based east of Honiara.
The complex, which has been a co-funded project by the Papua New Guinea (PNG) government and Japan’s government, is in its final completion phase, with most construction works winding down. The new SIFF Football Academy includes an office building, a dormitory, two football pitches, an outdoor futsal court, and a beach soccer pitch.
SIFF President Donald Marahare expressed that the SIFF Academy will become the new home of football in the Solomon Islands, fostering the development of coaches, players’ referees, and administrators.
“It will serve as the training ground for our national teams and the primary hub for football education,” Marahare said.
“The project represents a new chapter in the development of football in the Solomon Islands and also a remarkable example of the power of collaboration and dedication.
“I stand before you today on this momentous occasion to express our profound gratitude and appreciation for the unwavering support we have received in the realization of the XVII Pacific Games 2023, the SIFF Academy project. The project represents not only a new chapter in the development of football in the Solomon Islands but also a remarkable example of the power of collaboration and dedication.”
He said that the purpose of these magnificent facilities cannot be overstated and that the Solomon Islands is one of the very few federations in the region that are fortunate enough to receive such a gift.
“We are one of the very few federations in the region that are fortunate enough to receive such a gift, and we pledge to use it to the fullest,” he said.
The Solomon Islands Football Federation, together with Solomon Island government leaders, key stakeholders, and citizens, celebrated the official handover of the XVII Pacific Games 2023/SIFF Football Academy project at the new SIFF Football Academy compound today.
The SIFF President extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Solomon Islands Government, donors, and all those who have played a part in this journey.
