THE Solomon Islands Government, and the People’s Republic of China have signed the feasibility study Meeting Minutes for the proposed SINU Dormitory Project that will be used for 2023 Pacific Games Village.
The Ministry of the Foreign Affairs and External Trade on behalf of the Solomon Islands Government, and the People’s Republic of China, Counsellor Rui Gong, including the Assistant Secretary (Asia and Africa Political Desk) Gladys Luahiti Isihanua signed the document at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade conference room.
In her remarks, Counsellor Rui Gong thanked the key stake holders of the project and she stated that; “the meeting minutes is based on the original proposal from the Solomon Islands government.”
She further said that” the 2023 Pacific Games Village/SINU dormitory project will have 216 rooms that has the capacity to accommodate 924 athletes so during the games time, it will serve as one of the 2023 Pacific Athlete Games villages and after the games it will serve as the dormitory for SINU students.
The Chinese side will provide all the furniture including all the sanitary facilities for the games village. Peoples Republic of China will also be building a student activity hall with an equipment storage room next to the dormitories.
Counsellor Rui Gong went on to mention that after reporting the minute of the meetings back to the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) in China, the next stage of development will be for the People’s Republic of China to send a Design team to work on the design for the 2023 Pacific Games Village project and after completion of the design, the Chinese government will tender for a contractor to be appointment to come and start construction of the project as they have done for the 2023 Pacific Games Stadium Projects.
Assistant Secretary, Mrs Lauhiti Isihanua in response thanked the PRC for their support to the SIG in making sure that Solomon Islands can have enough and quality accommodation for the athletes during the hosting of 2023 Pacific Games.
She also mentioned that the signing of this meeting minutes is a testament to the collective efforts so she also acknowledged the commitments and efforts of other key stakeholders, the National Hosting Authority, Solomon Islands National University and the PRC feasibility study team.
She stated that “2023 is just a year and half away and the success of the games will be determined by how we officials work together so I call and encourage each of us to work together so that we drive this partnership in a coordinated and swift manner to ensure this project is, similarly to the others also to be ready despite of the pandemic.
A five man Chinese team from SIPPR (Six Institute of Project Planning and Research) recently completed a 2 week feasibility study.
