THE Solomon Islands women’s futsal team, led by Head Coach Arthur Barko, is proud and honored to host the inaugural OFC Futsal Women’s Nations Cup, set to begin tomorrow, Saturday at the Friendship Hall, east of Honiara.
Speaking at a press conference alongside coaches from the five participating nations, Coach Barko expressed the significance of this event for the country. “Solomon Islands is pleased and honored to host you all on our shores. We believe you are going to enjoy your time here as well,” he stated.
New Zealand’s Futsal Ferns Head Coach, Nic Downes, shared his team’s excitement about participating in the tournament. “Our expectations are to play well. The players have worked really hard, and we want to achieve what we came for,” said Coach Downes.
Fiji’s Futsal Women’s Head Coach, Jerry Sam, also expressed gratitude for being part of the historic event. “It’s great to be here, and we thank OFC for organizing the first-ever futsal competition for women. We’re here to compete and also to learn as the game develops in Fiji.”
The week-long tournament kicks off tomorrow, Saturday, August 17, at Friendship Hall, and Coach Barko encourages the local community to come out and support the teams. “This is our first national women’s futsal team, and it’s the first time we’re hosting this tournament. With everyone’s support, we can do our best for the country,” he added.
This tournament marks a milestone for both the Solomon Islands and women’s futsal in the region, and the nation looks forward to showcasing its talent on home soil.
