The much-anticipated Solomon Islands National Secondary School Games (SISSG) will officially open on Sunday, June 29, 2025. The gates at the national stadium will open at 12 pm for all guests, parents, guardians, and supporters. Entry will be free.
His Excellency the Governor General (Patron of the Games) and the Honorable Prime Minister will be the guests of honor. The Honorable Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele is expected to officially open the program. It is a momentous event where our students from the provinces, together with their teachers, parents, and guardians, will witness the presence of the Head of State and the Country’s Head of Government.
There will be cultural entertainment and a parade hosted by the participating schools during the opening ceremony. The Games Oath will be made after the flag raising and national anthem, with all athletes, coaches, and officials taking their oath of allegiance for the games.
According to the Chairman of the SISSG, Mr. Walter Diamana, the preparations for the program are progressing positively and the committee looks forward to delivering the games as planned. Mr. Diamana stated that Honiara will be welcoming participants from Renbel, Choiseul, Makira, Guadalcanal, Malaita, Western, and from schools within Honiara. He further stated that this will be the first national secondary school games that will be hosted using our world-class facilities; therefore, we look forward to empowering our athletes to build their expertise and careers through this experience.

The chairman reaffirmed that this School Games initiative is one that upholds and promotes the government’s theme of unity and transformation. It is a project designed to foster transformative outcomes by aligning education with sports, and it is targeting our young students and potential athletes to build their careers through the existing mechanisms that we now have in place.
Mr. Diamana calls on the public to come forward and support the games. He further called on all ex-students of the participating schools to rally behind their former schools. The Solomon Islands Secondary School Games will run from 29th June 2025 to 4th July 2025. The KG Sixth School will host the games village for all athletes.
Selwyn College is the current title holder and champions of the Solomon Islands Secondary School Games, taking the award in 2021.
