Team Tonga arrived yesterday for the sol2023 Pacific Games
Team Tonga is the second to arrive at the Henderson International Airport, following Team Papua New Guinea (PNG).
The arrival of both teams was efficiently managed by the Games Organizing Committee (GOC) PGA team.
Team Tonga Chef De Mission (CDM) Mr. Hiko Fungavaka’a, said, “Our goal is to secure more medals and give our best performance in the Pacific Games Sol2023. Our team comprises experienced athletes ready to compete.”
Acknowledging the significance of Solomon Islands hosting an event of this magnitude for the first time, Mr. Fungavaka’a added, “This marks a significant moment for Solomon Islands. Despite the enormity of the undertaking, it presents a learning opportunity. I believe this experience will contribute to the continuous improvement of Solomon Islands in the future.”
The Tongan delegation will be housed at the newly built Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Kukum Campus.
Looking ahead to the challenges of Sol2023 Pacific Games, Team Tonga aims to defend their titles, particularly after securing 9 Gold medals in the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.
Furthermore, Mr. Fungavaka’a, as the Chef De Mission for Team Tonga, has urged the Solomon Islands and Tongan communities in Honiara to extend their support to Team Tonga during the Pacific Games Sol2023.
