JUDO Sports Development Officer and Coach Tony Lomo have announced the selection of 35 athletes that have joined the national judo training squad to prepare ahead of the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara.
Tony confirmed to RAW SPORTS that the training squad comprised 35 judo athletes – 20 male and 15 female.
“Currently the early preparation training for the upcoming 2023 Pacific Games has already gained momentum.
“I am working on the individual aspects of each athlete especially on judo groundwork and transition techniques including point-scoring tactics.
“I believe that shaping their skills is important to gain valuable points during competitions, so far they have been practicing throwing techniques and grappling skills on the ground.
“At the end of the training, we often go into a series of sparring sessions,” he said.
