TRANSPORTATION of para-athletes to scheduled training at the Solomon Islands National Institution of Sports training grounds remains a major challenge for Solomon Islands para-athletes, says Solomon Islands Para Head Coach, Mark Ologa.
There are 30 para athletes hard at work at their high-performance training program at the Solomon Island National Institute of Sports (SINIS) grounds.
Head Coach Mark Ologa said they are mostly finding it difficult with the transportation of para-athletes to their weekly scheduled training as they prepare for next year’s 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara.
Ologa told RAW SPORTS that they are still no plans announced by the Solomon Islands National Paralympic Committee (SINPC) to provide transportation for para-athletes.
“Transportation difficulties are not a new challenge for the Solomon Islands para team, we hardly have any vehicles to take athletes in wheelchairs and cane.
“We are hoping that we can find the right support from the SINPC to get the right vehicle for our para-athletes.
“This a common problem for us the smaller sporting groups, particularly the para-athletes in the country,” Mark Ologa said.
He pointed out that the majority of the para-athletes have found it quite difficult when traveling on public transport like buses to their weekly training.
“Our para-athletes ought to have a vehicle to safely transport them to their place of training – Please help us as we are trying our best to prepare for next year’s 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara.
