THE PROVINCIAL Member for Ward-24 in West Are ‘are Constituency, Hon. Peter Clay Taraumae will stage three U14 competitions this year.
He told Raw Sport in an interview that the first futsal Challenge is set to kick off at Oterama village Ward-24 in West Are ‘are from 1st to 3rd October next month.
Speaking from Auki recently, he said that the Oterama challenge is only for U14 boys in ward-24, a part of his continuous assistance to improve the level of sport at this age level.
According to Hon. Taraumae, the first prize for the challenge includes a 1st prize of SBD$ 1000 donated by the MPA, a Second prize of $500, and a 3rd prize of $300. He said the registration fee is $200.
He said so far invitation letters have been sent to various teams and currently he said he is calling on the host communities to support him for the first challenge at Oterama.
“I am appealing to Oterama working employees receiving salaries to step in and donate the 2nd and 3rd prizes,” said Taraumae.
He pointed out that there would be strict measures taken to verify players before a team and a player can be eligible to participate.
“The Oterama competition will be strictly for U14, meaning 14 years and no room for 14 years plus 3 or 4 months. This is what happen at Uhu during the Malaita day celebration,” said the MPA.
He said that he will ensure the games commissioner including organisers will make sure the measures are in place for this very important agenda when verifying each team.
“I have been made aware that during the Malaita day celebrations, organisers were not strict on age limits as they justified that it all in the name of celebrating the big day, however with more planned competitions for our kids are coming up, I will make sure protocol is followed to make it fair,’’ Taraumae said.
The Hon. Member further highlights that the final U14 men’s category challenge will be held at Tawairoi village in November this year.
“Open competition for other wards will be held in December and that is also for the same age group, however, the venue is yet to be established,” he said.
According to the Provincial Member, the Competitions are part of his promotion programs in terms of sport for such age level in Ward-24.
