Preparations are gaining momentum for the highly anticipated West Are’Are Christmas Sports Tournament (WACS) 2025, with organizers confirming that 29 soccer teams have secured their spots following the official pool draw held on 30 November 2025 in Honiara.
The annual tournament—one of the biggest festive sporting events in Malaita Province—is scheduled to kick off on 26 December 2025 at the Kiu Masina Ruru Playing Field. The competition will feature soccer, netball, and volleyball, with the final technical meeting for the remaining sports set for 25 December in Kiu.
Interim West Are’Are Football Association (WAAFA) president, Clifford Huta, who also represents the Malaita Football Association (MFA) within the organizing committee, confirmed that preparations are progressing smoothly.
“Everything is on track for this year’s tournament, which will officially commence on December 26,” Huta said. “We look forward to an exciting competition that will unite our communities through sports during the festive season.”
This year’s soccer competition will see the 29 confirmed teams placed into seven pools (A–G), with six pools containing four teams each and one pool containing five.
