THIS week sees 70 Solomon Islands men’s and women’s hockey players hard at work at their series of scheduled training at the Solomon Island National Institute of Sports in East Honiara.
The training starts on Monday and continues through to Sunday.
The goals for the training are to establish the fitness, strength, and conditioning of players, including screening of all players so that they can select final the teams, and to work on technical and tactical skills, as they start early preparations ahead of next year’s 2023 Pacific Games set for 19 November to 2 December 2023 in Honiara.
Solomon Islands Hockey Federation Development Officer Allen Temoa, 36, told RAW SPORTS that the series of the high-performance scheduled training program is progressing well.
“I have trust and confidence in all our series of scheduled training, we want to ensure that our athletes can possess a maximum strength and fitness level.
“Our aim and objective under the series scheduled of training are to win medals at the next year’s 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara.
“The Solomon Islands Hockey Federation (SIHF) is expecting to welcome an Australian volunteer coach by this month, August, or early September to support the athletes on their technical and tactical skills,” Allen Temoa said.
