FORMER GUADALCANAL CUP Champs Central Gold is eyeing to retain the championship title won in past tournaments.
Coach Martin Heti in a recent interview told Raw Sports that he is working on 35 players in the training squad at the DC Park in Henderson, which will be further trimmed down to 30 players.
“I’m finalizing the Central Gold squad to represent Central Guadalcanal Constituency in the upcoming Guadalcanal Cup Championship.
“The G-Cup will be held on September 26. Central Gold is the champion of the last tourney and it’s not hard for us to retain the title. Now we have lots of coach players who are involved with other teams so it will be uncertain, but if we keep to what I train the players then I hope we can do it.
“So far I’m working on Team Task and a little bit on Player task, and put on a model and that is one important thing I start off with. I give them an understanding of what is a model of a game, the responsibility of the players and how we going to start becoming a team.

“Now I’m training team task and further training will be introduced after the final squad is selected. Every player has numbers and positions that they will play, so to make players become one in what is required, I need players to have an understanding of the model of team combination and team task, to make understand what I’m working on.
The Former National defender said discipline is very important for soccer players, “not only from outside the team but from the inside the team, players must be patient and listen to instructions.
“That is why it’s easier to coach a person who is educated because you will find it easy to communicate with him,” he added.
Heti who is also a veteran Kossa FC player said with his experience and understanding of the sport, he wants to share it with young players from his home community.
Meanwhile General Secretary of Guadalcanal Football Association (GFA) Joshua Kera recently told Raw Sports that this year’s Tournament will be more competitive than the previous ones, as all the constituency teams are fully focusing on winning the title.
