THE construction of the new health centre aimed to support the primary health care of athletes competing at the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands is set to complete in June next year.
The construction of the new health centre is funded by the Republican Government of Indonesia with the worth of USD 200,000 (SBD 1,626.0546).
In a symbolic ground-breaking and handing over ceremony held on September 8, 2022 at the King George VI school compound, Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare thanked the people and government of Indonesia for the gift of the Health Centre in support the 2023 Pacific Games in the country.
“This is another milestone for the country especially in our journey to the 2023 Pacific Games and I want to thank the Government and people of the Republic of Indonesia for supporting and funding the Health Centre for the Games next year,” Honourable Sogavare said at the ground-breaking ceremony.
A local contractor, Pro-Design will oversee the construction the health centre and it’s expected to be finish somewhere in June next year 2023.
In a similar note, the Special Secretary to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Hosting Authority (NHA), Dr. Jimmy Rodgers described the new health centre as ‘a place of healing’ for injured athletes during the 2023 Pacific Games.
Meanwhile, the Republic of Indonesia Ambassador to Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands His Excellency Andriana Sutandy said the People and Government of Indonesia were greatly honored to contribute in assisting the Health needs of the People of Solomon Islands especially after the Covid-19 Pandemic and said the Health of the People is of uttermost importance.
“The Health needs of the people transcends other people’s opinion and despite adversity, working together can transcend difficulties,” His Excellency Sutandy said.
