THE Pacific Games Council (PGC) President, Mr. Vidya Lakhan, has emphasized the significance of unity and excellence in the context of this year’s remarkable sporting event, the XVII Pacific Games 2023 in Honiara.
President Lakhan made the call during the official handover ceremony of the 2023 Pacific Games National Stadium Project on Friday, August 18, at King George the Six in east Honiara.
He spoke of the crucial role that the stadium will play in showcasing the Pacific region’s sporting prowess and fostering camaraderie among nations.
“The need for unity, stating that the Pacific Games are not just about competition but also about coming together as a united Pacific community, Sports have the remarkable power to unite us beyond boundaries and differences.
“This stadium is a testament to our shared goals and aspirations. As we celebrate the culmination of its construction, let us remember that our unity is our strength,” President Lakhan noted.
The event, attended by a diverse gathering of dignitaries, athletes, and enthusiasts, marked a significant milestone in the preparation for the Pacific Games in 2023. The stadium project, which has been a focal point of anticipation and excitement, aims to host thousands of athletes and spectators from across the Pacific region.
The President stressed the importance of excellence in both organization and performance and also expressed his confidence in the host nation’s ability to deliver an exceptional event that would set new standards for the Pacific Games.
He also encouraged athletes to strive for excellence and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
“The 2023 Pacific Games are anticipated to be a platform for not only sporting achievements but also cultural exchange and diplomacy. The new stadium, with its state-of-the-art facilities, is expected to contribute significantly to the overall success of the Games and leave a lasting legacy for the region,” President Vidya Lakhan said.
