The Solomon Islands Football Federation has taken a big step to support youth development in Small Malaita by helping to establish a Futsal Academy in Sa’a Village.
Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) officially handed over futsal balls and training equipment to Henry Wate, who will lead the new academy. The new futsal academy hopes to develop raw talent among rural youth and offer them a pathway to a brighter future through sport.
Representing SIFF at the handover was Dickson Kadau, Head of the SIFF Futsal Department, who expressed his gratitude and confidence in Wate’s leadership.
“We are truly grateful and honoured to recognise Henry Wate as a former futsal player who represented our nation,” Kadau said. “We believe Henry will use his experience to help the kids in his community.”
Kadau explained that the new Futsal Academy aims to teach discipline, promote fitness, and encourage youth to live healthy, active lifestyles.
“This is a time to give back and support the development of futsal,” he said on Tuesday, August 5. “It’s also an opportunity to engage our youth in positive activities that can guide them to become strong, responsible individuals.”
Kadau also called on the community and parents to support the academy’s mission.
“For this to succeed, it’s important that the community and parents work together with the people who will guide the kids,” he said. “Let’s join hands to build a brighter future for our youth.”
Also present at the handover was certified referee Ramcy Alahaesi, who witnessed the event and shared his support for the initiative.
Community Leader Mr. Walter Lent Sinehanue thanked SIFF and encouraged local youth to embrace the opportunity.
“I am so grateful and proud in my heart for this initiative,” he said. “We need all of us to move Sa’a forward.”
He urged young people to rise up and make the most of the new academy.
“Please rise up to be great men and women. Dream of a better developed Sa’a in the near future. Every contribution counts and must be embraced,” he said.
