AS preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers continue, the Solomon Islands National Team is set for a crucial international friendly against Hong Kong, China.
The match kicks off today at 7:00 PM (6:00 PM SBT) at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, Fiji.
This marks the first time the Solomon Islands will face the Asian side in the Tri-Nations International ‘A’ Friendlies, adding significance to the challenge ahead.
At the pre-match press conference, both head coaches and captains discussed their strategies and expectations for the match.
“For us, it’s about focusing on our game plan and not getting too caught up in what Hong Kong is doing. We’re preparing for our FIFA World Cup Qualifiers campaign – which we will be back in Fiji next month, and this friendly match is a key part of that preparation,” Solomon Islands’ new Head Coach Josh Smith told the media.
He noted that Hong Kong’s technical style could play to the Solomon Islands’ strengths.
“We expect them to focus on ground passes, which should suit our approach. We’re ready for a physical, entertaining, and tactical game.”
This match is historic, as it’s the first time these two nations will meet on the international stage, and the Solomon Islands holds a slight edge, ranked 18 places above Hong Kong in the latest FIFA rankings.
