SINCE March of this year, the Solomon Islands Karate Team have been making a lot of positive commitment towards their early training preparations at the Solomon Islands Institute of Sports Complex, East of Honiara.

A total of 25 karate athletes which comprised 15 males and 10 females under the expertise of the head coach, Selwyn Kuru kicked off their scheduled training under the Solomon Islands Institute of Sports (SINIS) high-performance program ahead of the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara.
Selwyn told RAW SPORTS that he has a young team and they have shown a lot of passion and positive commitment towards every training session.
He said with the availability of the right training program and quality gym facility provided by SINIS, he is optimistic that his athletes have gained massive confidence in every series of the scheduled training session.
“The athletes have shown great improvements and consistency in all their scheduled training.
“We have gone through a lot of specific training like gym sessions, strength and conditioning sessions, face-to-face sparring sessions, practicing power kicks, hand speed drills, and other technical and tactical sessions,” Selwyn said.

He believes that under the high-performance program, the Solomon Islands karate team is confidence to register medals for the country.
“After all we aim to train hard and smart because that’s the only strategy we can win medals for our country,” he said.

The 2023 Pacific Games are set for 19 November to 2 December 2023 in Honiara.
