SOLOMON Islands Amateur Boxing Association is now ready to host Papua New Guinea in amateur boxing fights set from 26 to 27 October at Pacific Casino in Honiara.
The two-night amateur boxing championship aims to test the country’s 2023 Pacific Games boxing training squad capabilities and confidence.
Of the eight selected amateur boxers of the national training squad, there are six males and two females. They are Petsy Seka – 63.5 kg (light welterweight), Remberton Lele – 60 kg (lightweight), Joshua Oaku – 67 kg (welterweight), Oswan Talaka – 71 kg (light-middleweight), Isiah Hairekoi – 75 kg (middleweight), Francis Fora – 80 kg (light heavyweight), Delnita Angitasi – 75 kg (middleweight) and Timoli Bari – 60 kg (lightweight).
Head coach, Howard Peter told RAW SPORTS that the championship aims to prepare our local fighters for the 2023 Pacific Games.
Howard said that they have requested Papua New Guinea (PNG) to fight in every weight category but their request was denied based on the decision made by PNG.
He said they want to test the capabilities of the local boxers.
“Our goal is not to win the fights but to test the capabilities and confidence of our local boxers as they prepare ahead of the 2023 Pacific Games,” the head coach said.
He encouraged family members, friends, and the public to come forward and support the local boxers during the two nights fight.
