AMATEUR Boxer, Francis Fora, who won gold medals at the 2021 Solomon Islands Amateur Boxing Association Championship held in Noro, Western Province and Honiara has currently joined the country’s boxing training squad and since then he is now looking forward of chasing his gold dream in the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara.
Francis Fora, 23, a member of Elite Bombers Boxing Club in Noro said that with the four gold medals that I have previously won during the 2021 Solomon Islands Amateur Boxing Association Championship (SIABA), I now feel confident to compete against the top boxers in the Pacific region at the upcoming 2023 Pacific Games.
“My goal is to win a gold medal at the next year’s Pacific Games. But, first I have secure my spot in the final boxing squad.
“I am currently satisfied with the state of art training facilities and equipment provide under the high performance training program at the Solomon Islands Institute of Sports Complex,” Francis told RAW SPORTS.
Regarding his journey in the sport of boxing, Francis started his participation in boxing from the influence of his uncle and elder brother, however, it was in 2017, when he registered his membership with the Elite Bombers Boxing Club in Noro.
“My uncle and elder brother have helped me a lot, and I am nothing without them. I believe they would be very happy if represent the country in the 2023 Pacific Games and bring glory to my home province and the country.
“Boxing had become an important part of my life, and without boxing, I won’t be here pursuing my gold medal dream,” he said.
