YOUNG female, enthusiastic hockey player, Dynesa Tome is now trying to earn a spot at playing for the Solomon Islands in Honiara’s 2023 Pacific Games.
Dynesa, 20, who had undergone an appendectomy (surgical removal of the appendix) in 2017 after she suffered an appendix rupture that forced her to remain out of the sport told Raw Sports that she is now focusing on a comeback to train under the watchful eyes of the Solomon Islands Hockey Federation.
“I had an an appendectomy in 2017, so I stopped playing hockey in that particular year,” she said. “It’s been three complete years that have not to train or participated in the game of hockey, but, now that I am back with the national hockey training team for the Pacific Games, I hope to deliver my best on my comeback this year.”
Dynesa was introduced to hockey (as a sport) in her high school days at the Betikama Adventist College. Later on, she became passionate about the sport and represented her school in an organized school domestic league.
She is one of more than a dozen local players who are members of the national female hockey training team in Honiara who are in hopes of getting a chance to play for the Solomon Islands at the 2023 Pacific Games.
“I often dream to represent my country in sports and this opportunity to get back in the training is a blessing for me.
“For now, my main focus now is to be part of the country’s national training squad. With the aim to improve my level of fitness from my training sessions.
“And I am working hard on that. Building my skills (ball control and handling) and confidence (dealing with pressure) is my next focus.”
The Solomon Islands national hockey training team scheduled weekly training sessions are held at the Woodford International School, East of Honiara.
