FUTSAL competition organizers at Oterama village, West Are ‘are, Malaita province have identified the need to have qualified futsal coaches in future competitions in the region.
Member of Malaita Provincial Assembly and Member of Ward 24 in West Are’are, Honourable Peter Clay Taraumae told Raw Sports that it is clear to say that the need for qualified futsal coaches is paramount if we want to take up the sport to the next level.
Earlier this month (October), the Provincial Ward Member initiated an Under 14 Futsal Competition as an approach to promote futsal among the young children and youths in the particular region.
Honourable Peter argued that the Malaita Football Association (MFA) needs to have a proper plan to train local coaches who are struggling to develop this particular sport in the rural setting.
“Most of the local coaches in our rural setting who have to lead their teams to the competition had never gone or either attend any proper coaching courses to become futsal coaches.
“Our local coaches have not yet participated in any form of futsal coaching workshops that can equip them with the right technical knowledge and skills.
“And I believe that we need to liaise with Malaita Football Association (MFA) and Solomon Island Football Federation (SIFF) to participate in such futsal coaching training opportunities,” Honourable Peter expressed his concern.
This month’s futsal competition has attracted the participation of seven teams particularly from Ward 24 in West Are’are. The respective U-14 teams represented the following villages of Waimarau, Tawairoi, Uhu, Nari’ekeara, Oterama (Competition Host), and Pipisu.
Tawairoi Futsal team won the overall competition and was awarded a $1000 cash prize, the runner prize of $700 was awarded to Snap Jay Jnrs (Waimarau village), whilst the third cash prize of $400 was awarded to St Paul Uhu FC (Uhu village).
Another Futsal competition is scheduled for November (next month) at the Tawaroi sporting ground, according to Honourable Peter.
