SOLOMON Island Basketball Federation instructor, Gregory Ofia says local basketball players must show full commitment in their training preparations ahead of next year’s Pacific Games in Honiara.
Gregory Ofia previously coached the country’s national basketball team to Palau (Pacific Games) in 2005 and has again been called upon to assist the Solomon Island Basketball Federation (SIBF) in their scheduled training.
“I believe in these young people. Unlike other sports, basketball is a small sport, so it has to come from personal commitment.
“I’d like these players to completely commit themselves to building a team of players with strong minds and commitment to do something for the country and themselves.
“This squad is dominated by young players and this is a good sign for us, but it also means we have more work, to develop players’ physical and mental capabilities and abilities before going into a bigger competition,’’ he told Raw Sport.
A key area that the team has been working hard to achieve in their recent scheduled training was the basics of offense and defense drills.
He said the team are currently gearing up preparations for the upcoming 2022 Melanesian Games this year.
