A month-long football tournament aimed to boost young talents in communities around Gizo Island in the Western province has continued over the weeks, attracting worthy prizes for winning teams.
The Club’s spokesman and member of the tournament’s Organising Committee, Kiron Taputoa says the main aim of organizing the soccer tournament is to expose young players to experience real competition and to raise funds for the club to prepare for upcoming competitions.
“The tournament is an interactive one, which aims to bring players of respective clubs around Gizo to come together and know each other,” he said.
There are 30 teams registered to compete in the tournament.
The tournament is organized by the TINIU Soccer Club which is comprised of players from the respective communities of Niu Mandra and Titiana in Gizo.
Many appealing prizes are up for grabs for winning teams and individual players. The individual prizes will feature – Golden boot, Golden Glove, and Fairest player, however, these are the following prizes to be won: First Prize – $1000, Second Prize – $700, Third Prize – $500, and Fourth Prize – $300.
