SOLOMON Islands national football team head coach Felipe Vega-Arango urged supporters to show a positive spirit towards the nation’s national teams during a recent media conference at the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) headquarters in Honiara.
Following a flurry of criticism directed at the national team during their previous games, there is now a call for unwavering support. Vega-Arango voiced his worry about the disparaging remarks, highlighting the effect they have on the team’s chemistry and the players’ morale.
“I don’t understand the agenda behind the negativity, especially at a time when the team is performing well,” head coach Felipe Vega-Arango said.
He said that in order to support our national men’s soccer team, we must come together.
“Above all, they are our brothers and compatriots, and they are representing our nation.
“The team’s confidence and performance will be greatly enhanced by the head coach’s emphasis on preserving a positive environment and providing constructive criticism.
“We expect something real from our fans—genuine support that motivates our players to excel on the field,” he stated.
Coach Vega-Arango’s appeal for unity among fans serves as a call to action for the country to support its national teams and exhibit the genuine spirit of sportsmanship as anticipation for the Pacific Games 2023 football competition grows.
Alongside Vega-Arango, Batram Suri, the head coach of the national women’s soccer teams, also spoke to the media during the press conference. In addition to giving updates on their teams, both coaches stressed the value of cooperation and support as they prepare for this week’s Sol2023 XVII Pacific Games football competition, which will take place on home soil.
