The recent National Secondary School Games 2021 Females’ single category table tennis gold medallist Shannon Sogavare has attend her first training session last week.
The Gold Medallist made her first appearance in the table tennis trial matches at the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) table tennis court Wednesday last week.
Shannon Sogavare join other NSSG table tennis winners in their first competition trial against the MHMS healthy and lifestyle table tennis club.
“Today is my first day to participate .I get nervous at the first place, you know it is my first time…but slowly I will cope. All and all I really enjoyed the game today,” said the 16 years old in an interview with Rawsports.
Shannon highlights new experiences she encountered during her first day of competition.
“I lost my first game, said Shannon. Many athletes in this competition are good competitors. They know the game very well but for me it is part of learning, part of building my carrier,” she said.
“Table tennis games have improved a lot, I find many skilful players joining the sport, and yes its challenging games as well. I often come and watch games here, and I can say it has improved a lot,” said Shannon.
When asked if she going to take part in future competition, Shannon said she is ready and looking forward to it.
A total of 9 table tennis winners during the recent 2021 National secondary School games (NSSG2021) together with MHMS healthy and lifestyle club kicked started the fourth night competition.
The High school competition was organized by the Honiara table tennis association (HTTA) and facilitated by the Ministry of health and medical services (MHMS) table tennis club.
Raw Sport understand that the program is to train the young table tennis athletes for the Upcoming Game on September 27, the Solomon Games in November, PG2023 and future competition.
Table tennis president Kevin Olea meanwhile told raw sport that Honiara table tennis association will be visiting schools this week to organize more friendlies for students who wish to take part.
He thank HTTA president and vice president of MHMS table tennis club bobby patteson and Isaac Molilua for supporting the association’s development programme.
