Honiara, 6th April 2022- The Solomon Islands Amateur Boxing Association (SIABA) will now benefit from the High-Performance partnership sealed with the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS).
This was following the SIABA Executive signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SINIS and the governing National Sports Council (NSC) today, Wednesday 6th April 2022.
Through the High-Performance professional support boxers will access services across the sporting system, which includes Coaching, Medical Physiotherapy, Physiology, Nutrition and Strength and Conditioning – all of which together will enable boxers to reach their highest levels of performance and achieve positive learning outcomes from the program.
SIABA President Patrick Morris said that this partnership will significantly add value for boxers in preparations for the 2023 Pacific Games.
“Firstly, our executive wants to thank the Solomon Islands Government for establishing this sport development program and facility and making it available for athletes to prepare,” Morris remarked.
“Secondly, SIABA want to thank SINIS High-Performance Executive Director Aaron Alsop and his staff for the services and programs they will be providing to our athletes and coaches because certainly, it will help boxing in our preparations for the 2023 Pacific Games.
Likewise, SIABA General Secretary Richard Toben adds that the MOU partnership it’s a positive investment for sports overall in the country.
“SIABA is looking forward to utilize not only just the facilities but also the services and programs that are part and parcel of the High-Performance initiative,” Toben stated.
The SIABA Executive further confirmed to prepare/select their pool of boxers who will undergo the initial High-Performance Athlete Induction at the institute.
Meanwhile, the MOU signing also gave access for SIABA to include two of their boxing coaches, Peter Howard and John San, selected to undergo the initial Coach Development Scholarship Program under SINIS Portfolio 1 (Combat/Weight Sports).
SINIS High-Performance program is dedicated to developing and nurturing boxing athletes. Its primary aim is to best prepare the athletes and coaches to adopt a higher level of sports system for the first time in the country.
