The annual tournament to mark Buma Holy Spirit Parish’s feast day in West Kwaio has started this week on Monday with a colourful parade of teams.
Games played include 11 aside soccer for men, netball for women and girls and futsal for boys under 12 of age.
36 teams registered for soccer which will be played in pool rounds.
During the opening ceremony yesterday, Eddie Omokirio who is the guest of honour at the event said he is happy to take part in the event.
He said he visits many parts of Malaita to attend such events but West Kwaio always stands out..
“I visited many places to be part of such an event in Malaita, but today I was very happy to witness this event here in West Kwaio.
“I know West Kwaio is the place where few best national players have come out from,” he added.
At the same time, he encouraged every player to follow discipline and put almighty God first in anything they want to do in life.
“Discipline is not only physical but, also spiritual,” he said.
The games will continue for this week and will end on Sunday, June 5 which is also the feast day.
