The current Solomon Islands Chess title holder, James Baiango said that the game of Chess would be best if introduced in High Schools syllabus.
James Baiango who was currently preparing himself with his club towards the upcoming Kenilorea chess championship said this to Rawsport News during an exclusive interview this week.
He said that the sports is very suitable for High School students because it exercises the brain to think deeper and to exercise concentration and focus.
“The game of Chess exercises the brain think deeper since it needs more concentration and focus when playing it, ” He said.
James said Schools like Chung Wa and Woodford International School introduced chess sport as part of their educational subject.
“Chess Federation Solomon Islands has already introduced Chess sport in certain schools in Honiara which sounds good” James said.
James was among other four young players who were selected to represent team Solomon Island that should compete in the Russia Olympiad Chess championship last year 2020 however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, their was trip cancelled.
James said he believed that Solomon Islands Chess players were very tough and skilful unlike any other neighbouring countries because we don’t depend on immigrants to represent our country, though we don’t have qualified trainers and coaches to stand at the players back for support.
He mentioned that one of his aim was to spread the message of chess sport in all provinces in Solomon Islands just like soccer.
“I want see more provinces do chess, Malaita, Western province and from Shortlands to Temotu,” He said
James along with his five years old Club, Trojan Knight, will also be participating in this upcoming Sir Peter Kenilorea Chess championship which will kick off this weekend in Honiara.
Seven Clubs will be partcipating.
