HAVING more exposure in terms of international competitions will enable Solomon Islands team karate to achieve more medals at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara.
Solomon Islands Karate Head Coach, Selwyn Kuru told RAW SPORTS that it is important for the country’s karate athletes to gain more competition exposure in terms of our lead-up preparation for next year’s Pacific Games.
Selwyn said despite having gone through early positive preparation under the Solomon Island National Institution of Sports (SINIS) high-performance training program, the karate athletes urgently need exposure to international competitions especially to give them extra confidence and knowledge.
He said although the initial plans to participate in regional competitions next year are making progress, the only problem is funding to make it into reality.
“Our early preparations towards the 2023 Pacific Games have made progress and positive momentum.
“We are now focusing on making competition arrangements with countries like Fiji, Australia Vanuatu, and Papua New Guinea, however, it will depend entirely on financial support to travel with the whole team,” Selwyn said.
