TEAM athletics in the Solomon Islands have recently kicked off recruitment and training of new athletes to compete at the upcoming 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, however, they want to see more girls getting involved in the running tracks.
2019 Pacific Games long distance runner, Patrick Kam told RAW SPORTS that there is still a shortage of females competing in the track events.
“We definitely would like to see more females in the running tracks, a limited number of females are participating in that discipline.
“Still, with the limited numbers available, we need more females to join the training team in our immediate planning and preparations for 2023
“We hoped to be able to work with some new young females in our current training sessions on the Solomon Islands Institute of Sports (SINIS) training tracks at King George VI.
“At the moment, we have yet the select the final athletes to prepare and compete in the upcoming 2023 Pacific Games track events,” Kam said.
On a similar note, the person overseeing both long jump and high jump events at the SINIS new track and field facility at King George VI, Paul Kori urged more young and talented male and female athletes to come forward and register their names under the two field events.
“I know that there might be some talented athletes still hiding away in Honiara and other provinces.
“We need more long jump and high jump female and male jumpers in general,” Kori told RAW SPORTS.
