PRIME Minister and also the Minister responsible for the Pacific games 2023, Hon. Manasseh Sogavare has invited all Premiers and administrators to share ideas with the National Hosting Authority (NHA) with regards to how best they could link and tie provinces to the PG2023.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare said this when presenting his key note address at the Guadalcanal second appointed day held at Marau on Monday 2nd of August.
“I as the minister for the PG2023 invites all the provincial premiers and other administrators to share ideas with the National Hosting Authority (NHA) on how best we could link and tie provinces to the PG2023, making sure that the games and its Legacy are remembered beyond Honiara and beyond sports” He said.
Prime Minister’s call comes due to logistical challenges and limitations forecasted for provinces to participate in terms of core hosting, planning and the delivery of the PG2023.
Prime Minister Sogavare said that currently preparation has made good progress and games venues and constructions of the games facilities have started and scheduled to be completed by June 2023.
“On Games village venues, my government is currently in talk with the our bilateral partners, the People’s Republic of China government to fund a 900 hundred bed dormitory for Solomon Islands National university that would remain as SINU’s property after the games.
“The National Hosting Authority are currently undergoing schools’ classrooms and dormitories review for maintenance which is projected to be done by August 2023 so that arriving sports people will be accommodated in,” Prime Minister Sogavare said.
The Prime Minister in the meantime lauds the premier of Guadalcanal for their commitment to accommodate up to 5000 officials.
“My government is about to complete the construction of the National Institute of sports facility where we will deliver high performance programs for our athletes to sharpen up skills ready to compete at the PG2023” He said.
He also said that that the National Institute of Sports will have a dormitory to accommodate provincial athletes and coaches visiting from their respective provinces.
“The facility will be open to our athletes by November 19th this year” He said.
