SIBF President William Lai this week made a formal courtesy call to the Prime Minister’s Office to update on the progress of the sport and call for further support to SIBF plans and programs.
President Lai met with Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Bradley Tovosia (MP), and together they discussed items related to Solomon Islands hosting of the 2025 FIBA MELANESIA CUP in Honiara next year, and opportunities for the development of a basketball home.
“Very happy for this opportunity to meet with the Acting PM and share our plans and ideas with our new government”, President Lai stated.
“The sport can only move forward if stakeholders like the government are in support of all our programs that we develop for our young people, the community and the country at large”.
President Lai used the opportunity to update the Acting Prime Minister of current plans and programs for basketball including the closing of the very successful high school competition this coming weekend.
He informed the Acting PM that the main league will commence later on in the month and the community is looking forward to raising the profile of basketball further, under his leadership, and support of all stakeholders.
