THE Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports Complex grounds will host the field event tryouts for this year’s Solomon Islands Para Sports squad for the XVII Pacific Games in 2023 in October.
The XVII Pacific Games 2023 begins from November 19 to December 2 in Honiara.
After a week of training at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports (SINIS) Complex grounds, athletes competing in the seated throw events and other sports competed in this month’s para-athlete monthly trials.
The previous months and weeks of the high-performance training program at the SINIS grounds, according to para-athlete head coach Augustine Olibuma, have given his athletes more confidence as they get ready to choose a final roster for team Solomon Islands for the upcoming Pacific Games 2023 (PG2023) in November.
“We continue to provide additional workshops during camp to benefit the athletes, such as those on nutrition, mental toughness, wellbeing, and recovery. Before the Games in November, the last of the trial competitions will take place in October. The events would enable coaches to spot areas that require work and encourage players to up their game before the Games,” Olibuma said.
Rodney Konai, a para-athlete, expressed his happiness and trust in the high-performance training regimen designed to get the competitors ready for the next final trials.
“Our camp is really friendly and accommodating. It influences how we think. Timing and how to prepare for competition is one of the topics we discuss in training camp.
“The training camp is incredibly wonderful and helpful to me in terms of my training, in my opinion. We will do our best regardless of what people say,” the 29-year-old stated.
