ST. Joseph Tenaru National Secondary School in Central Guadalcanal successfully concluded four days of an inter-house athletics carnival on May 17 at the school’s sports ground.
Peace Tuasulia told RAWSPORT in an exclusive interview on Friday, 17th, that the school usually organizes the event every year.
Madam Tuasulia said that the aim of the inter-house athletics carnival is to allow students to showcase their talents, especially through sports.
She said that the event starts on Tuesday, May 14, and ends on Friday, May 17.
“The main purpose of hosting the event annually is to bring all the students together to showcase their talents, as some students are good at sports. It is also to empower them,’’ said Tuasulia.
She said that the main sporting events organized for the students are track events and field events that include long jumps, high jumps, and 100-meter sprints.
“We organized the event annually. The students usually participate in teams with their various uniforms, so we usually have four teams. Orange: Laumanasa, blue: François, red: Campagnat, and green: Chanel,’’ she said.
Madam Tuasulia also said that a medical team from the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS) was also led by the country’s long-distance runner, Sharon Firisua, to be part of the event.
“Many of them are our former students. They also provide awareness talks, especially to students, mainly on sports. They also help students when they are injured.
“A winning team usually wins trophies and also medals. Other prizes are also offered to participating teams,’’ she said.
