THE president of the Honiara Table Tennis Association Mr. Kevin Olea has expressed acknowledgment to the Development Bank of Solomon Islands for the great assistance towards the recent Honiara City Schools Table Tennis Competition.
The event was completed on 29 September at the Honiara Senior High School with a medal presentation ceremony.
Speaking behalf of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Development Bank of Solomon Islands (DBSI), Senior Financial Support Officer Mr. Samson Kakadi said that on behalf of the CEO of the Development Bank of Solomon Islands, we are happy to support and help develop the sport table tennis and we hope to see the sport develop and reach places where the sport have never been reached and played.
“The CEO together with all staff of the Development Bank of Solomon Islands is excited to support the school students as this could be a sports career for some and we hope to see some of the school base athletes play in the upcoming Pacific Games here on our soil comes 2023.
“The CEO of the Development Bank of Solomon Islands acknowledged the HTTA for organizing such an important competitive initiative for school students to participate and play sport and we look forward to working closely with the HTTA for a similar competition next year 2021.
“We believe very much that these students besides table tennis because they are our future leaders of the country after finishing their studies,” Kakadi said.
Honiara Table Tennis Association (HTTA) President of HTTA, Kevin Olea also acknowledged the CEO for such timely assistance and comments on that the medals and the two personal awards will bring memories to the school administration and school base athletes in terms of friendship between the Development Bank of Solomon Islands and the Honiara Table Tennis Association 2021 Honiara Schools Table Tennis Competition.
Kevin Olea highlighted that this is the highest level of competition that the Association has hosted for the High School and Tertiary levels and the event aims to scout and select the best youthful squad to represent team Honiara for Solomon Games and the High-Performance schools that will open soon.
The Development Bank of Solomon Islands has supported the 2021 Honiara Schools Competition with a total of 54 medals and two personal awards.
The total amount of financial support in medals and awards is approximately SBD 4,212.00.
Meanwhile, the HTTA President confirmed that the event will be annually held and it will occur next year in April to mark the Easter Break for students.
The following student tennis athletes were awarded the Best Awards of this year’s 2021 Honiara City Schools Competition.
- Best Female: Shannon Sogavare of Betikama Adventist College
- Best Male: Lewis Wate Junior of Stain Nicholas Anglican College
