The country’s weightlifting squad currently are going through their preparation training for the upcoming 2022 Pacific Mini games in Northern Marianas in June.
Speaking to the Solomon Women’s News, Coach Wendy Hale said the athletes are training really hard every day in preparations for the pacific mini games getting ready for their final selections.

“The team are into their training and will be tested to do selections at the end of this month,” Wendy said.
The coach said the weightlifting team are categorized into categories from beginners to seniors.
Coach Wendy said the Pacific mini-games will be a space where selected athletes will have the chance to compete again against other countries to boost them as they also prepare for the upcoming 2023 games.
Wendy also highlighted one main issue that athletes have to go through every single training day.

“If only we have a proper venue to train. Our current training space is very old and crowded. We do not have enough space to cater to all our weightlifters during our training sessions,” she said.
She also said that currently, only six female athletes are among the men who are undergoing their training.
“The number of women weightlifters are always low but they are the ones who always have the opportunity to win medals,” she said.
The coach says she’s looking forward to the signing of the MOU with SINIS so that the athletes will be able to have the access to train in a new setting under all programmes and sessions offered at SINIS.
“I have confidence in the athletes and as soon as they get the access to train under SINIS programmes and sessions they surely will have more confidence in winning more medals in the upcoming sports events for the country,” she said.
