WITH 18 Months to go for the XVII Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands hockey head coach, Paul Luiramo has said the teams scheduled preparations are on track as expected.
Solomon Islands will host 2023 Pacific Games event from 19 November to 2 December 2023 in Honiara.
“The Solomon Islands hockey is uncertain about any future championships, however, the players are continuing with their intensive preparations towards the next year’s Pacific Games.
“The teams (both men and women) had been undergoing their gym sessions – building strength and body condition of our athletes – for almost five weeks under the high performance training program at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports (SINIS),” the head coach told Raw Sports.
Speaking of the number of athletes undergoing last week’s training at Lawson Tama Stadium, Luirama said the training team are comprised of 32 players – 16 male and 16 female – who have undergone their second outdoor field basic training.
“Most of the players’ were selected from Selwyn College hockey team who previously won the 2021 National Secondary School Competition hockey competition in Honiara.
“However, preparations are on track with the focus on improving the areas that needs further improvements, and for now, the players are excited to build up and upgrade their skills, knowledge and confidence to the right direction,” he said.
