HAVE you been past the Honiara Multi-purpose Hall facilities recently? If so, you would have noticed that the upgrades to the sports courts, gym space, and training facilities are advancing towards completion!
While the area remains a construction site, we are pleased to see works continuing to progress, with stormwater work recently finished and wastewater infrastructure and landscaping anticipated to be completed in the coming months. Check out these photos for a sneak peek of the sports courts and youth hub, which are looking bright with their recent paintwork – along with the arrival of some sports equipment fixtures!
The improved facilities, supported through the New Zealand – Honiara City Council partnership, include two sets of outdoor multi-sport training courts for netball, futsal, tennis, basketball, and volleyball training; expanded gym and exercise facilities equipped to meet wider training needs; a new, standalone youth hub; and an outdoor performance stage – all which will serve the young people and communities in Honiara.
New Zealand is pleased to be supporting the Solomon Islands with quality infrastructure built with social inclusion considerations and sustainability in mind, to ensure that generations of young people and sports enthusiasts can benefit from these facilities in the years to come. We expect that they will be popular training facilities in advance of the 2023 Pacific Games.
