The Honiara City Athletics Association (HCAA) is gearing up for the upcoming Honiara Games 2023.
Secretary to the HACC, Mr. Kevin Olea said participating and competing in the Honiara Games is an opportunity to compete in the upcoming Solomon Games to be held in March in Honiara.
Speaking to the Media, Mr. Olea said that team Honiara City Athletics will commence training on the 24th of January 2023.
He said the training is inclusive of the Honiara Para athletic teams for both field and track events.
Meanwhile, the HCAA President, Nelson Kabitana commends the Central Islands Provincial Athletics for successfully hosting the 7 events in field and track during the GERUSA games in Tulagi from 11th – 15th of January 2023.
The next anticipated games is the Isabel games which will be held on the 27th of January 2023 in Buala.
The HCAA President and also the president of Athletics Solomons, Mr. Kabitana congratulate and wish all Athletic Athletes all the best in their preparation for the upcoming Solomon Games 2023.
He said Participating and competing in the provincial games gives pathways to compete in the Solomon Games.
Mr. Kapitana said this is where the Federations together with all affiliated athletics association will select and scouts potential athletes to team up with the team Solomon for the Sol2023 Pacific Games.
He said that with the recent GERUSA Games, the federation appreciated all technical and the local organizing committee with the gold names of the Solomon Ports, National Sports Council, and the Central Islands Provincial Assembly.
He said the federation has seen good results from the potential athletes.
He on behalf of the federation also commended the Malaita athletes who competed in the Long race event that took place in Malu’u in the northern region of Malaita province.
He said the federation thanks all partners and businesses with technical people who help out to facilitate the event over the Christmas week.
