SOLOMON Islands women coaches representing various sporting discipline in the country have activated a series of weekly discussions aimed to promote an understanding on domestic violence, gender equality and sports related issues.
The weekly discussion which attracted more than 20 women participants are held every Wednesday at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports (SINIS) conference room.
The primary aim of hosting such weekly events is to advocate on issues related to gender-based violence and promotion of gender equality in the development of sports in the country.
The events are held as the country looks forward to celebrate the annual 16 Days of Activism campaign against gender-based violence from 25 November to World Human Rights Day on 10 December this year.
The event facilitator, Helen Egin told RAW SPORTS that they have already kicked-off four sessions over the past weeks and the outcomes of the discussions has been very positive for both facilitators and participants.
“The topics covered in the series of weekly events focuses on understanding benefits of sports through gender inclusiveness, breaking the barriers or challenges affecting women and girls participating in sports and other related knowledge and innovations sharing activities,” she said.
