YOUTHS in the Tandai ward in North West Guadalcanal Constituency are calling on responsible stakeholders to support them through providing sports equipment to boost sporting activities as measures of reducing criminal activities in their communities.
The concern raised was because there were no sporting activities taking place or organised during the Christmas and New Year periods compared to other constituencies around the country, where sports become the main part of their celebration throughout the New Year season.
Rawsport in an exclusive interview with Benjamin Tala, a sports leader at Vura village in Tandai ward, North West Guadalcanal said that youths within the area were very interested if support can be rendered in some main sports played within their community.
He said that majority of youths around their communities were involved a lot in criminal activities during this New Year Season since sporting activities were not organised included within their constituency during the period.
“Majority of youths within our communities are involved a lot in criminal activities without sports association in our communities,” He said
“It was very sad to see our youths involved themselves into such activities especially consuming of drugs such as Marijuana and Kwaso,” he added
He said that they continue with training especially on soccer and volleyball in their community but they need responsible elders to help them boost their sporting activities.
Most games organised previously were organised as fundraising drives by the church. There was still no sponsors under our constituency
“We depend very much only on organised games set by our churches where it depends only when they organised it, but for any sponsors under our constituency, nothing was done at all” he added
He then call on the respective people from North West Guadalcanal to consider and help the development of the youths through sport to reduce criminal activities in the constituency.
Rawsports understands that last year, there was a constituency game organised in the North West Guadalcanal where sportsmen and women from both wards, Tandai, Saghalu participated in.
