Aussie Transfer Moves for Three National Players
THREE Solomon Islands internationals have secured high-profile moves in this season’s Australian National Premier League (NPL), the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) confirmed this week.
Prolific forward, Raphael Le’ai signed with Wollongong Wolves FC in New South Wales after an impressive stint at Adelaide City FC. Rising prodigy Rovu Boyers joins West Adelaide SC in South Australia, while national team defender Javin Alick Wae becomes the latest export, heading to Campbelltown City SC.
For young Boyers, it will be a return to active club football since having stints in Europe. West Adelaide SC Head Coach Theo Tsiounis expressed enthusiasm about Boyers arrival last week in South Australia.
“We are thrilled to welcome Rovu to West Adelaide. His natural talent and potential are truly impressive, and we are eager to help him reach his full potential this year. We look forward to a successful collaboration and are confident he will make a significant impact on our team and club.”
After a single season in South Australia, Le’ai is making the move to one of the successful clubs in the National Soccer League and NSW State League.
Wollongong Wolves Head Coach Warren Grives shared excitement about his signing.
“Rafa is a young, talented striker who will provide another strong attacking threat in the front line. His speed, skill, and goal-scoring ability will make a significant impact on the 2025 season. We are all eager to see his contributions as he integrates into our squad.”
Alick Wae is the latest player to leave the country this week after a successful season with home-based champions Central Coast FC last season in the Telekom S-League.
Daniel Mullen, Head Coach of Campbelltown City SC, praised Javin Wae’s qualities:
“Javin is a strong, powerful defender with leadership capabilities and an ability to excel in a possession-based game. We are excited to watch him develop and bring success to our club in 2025.”
Solomon Islands national team coach Joshua Smith also hailed the moves as milestones for local football saying that the pathway in developing elite players to experience international exposure is taking shape.
“We are delighted to see Javin Alick, Rovu, and Raphael secure opportunities in the Australian NPL. These transfers reflect the dedication of our players, staff, and federation in creating pathways for international success. Competing in such environments will not only enhance their individual growth but also strengthen the national team and elevate Solomon Islands football on the global stage.”
Smith further hinted at upcoming announcements of international signings, aligning with the federation’s commitment to developing the next generation of footballing talent.
SIFF’s close partnership with the Australian Government continues, with Australia funding flights, visas, medical testing, migration agent fees, and private health insurance – all needed to get the players to Australia.
Australian High Commissioner His Excellency Rod Hilton said “our love of football brings our countries together. It’s great to have talented national players lighting up the stage in the Australian National Premier League and showcasing the exciting style of play for which Solomon Islands is known.
