EIGHTEEN (18) Karate athletes have recently been selected into the final to represent the Solomon Islands in the XVII 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara.
Solomon Islands Karate Federation (SIKF) President Rex Keniherea told RAW SPORTS that the country’s Karate squad was selected based on the results of the recent scheduled trial competitions conducted at the Solomon Islands National Institution of Sports (SINIS) High Performance Centre.
Rex said the final 22 member squad comprised of 18 athletes – 11 males and 7 females and 4 officials.
“The national team is the result of the final karate federation trial tournament which ended with a result of 18 players selected,” he said.
The president described the karate squad as the biggest squad in Solomon Islands history.
“This squad is the biggest in history and 90% of these players are new athletes who have never competed in major regional and international games such as the Pacific Games,” he said.
Rex said the team is prepared and he has hope and confident in the team to win medals this year.
